THE BROWNING OLD GITS TOURNAMENT 2007

In spite of the weather forecast the second Browning Old Gits Tournament took place on Wednesday 15th August and the sun shone (well, for part of the time anyway). Twenty two oldies threw away their zimmer frames, donned their supports and took part in a tournament of incredible complexity.
Hugh Norton took charge of the whistle, timer and score sheet. At least three rounds of agile tennis were played by each participant before lunch. After a refresher of Pimms, all enjoyed an excellent lunch washed down with a glass or two or maybe more of wine - the eight semi finalists seemed to show no caution in their consumption.
After lunch the rain stopped and the semi finals were played to a cheering crowd. Debbie Jones, Charly Dando, Geoff Jones, Colin Timson played a final that was only slightly overshadowed by thunder followed by a flypast of the Red Arrows - a fitting end to a lovely day.
Many thanks to Barbara Mabbutt for organising the food, Chris Rylance for the bar, Hugh Norton for taking charge of the whistle, and Lynne Browning for presenting the prizes. Just over £100 was raised for the club and we hope it will used for new benches for courts one and two.
