BISHOP SUTTON BROWNING OLD GITS TOURNAMENT 12.8.2009

BISHOP SUTTON BROWNING OLD GITS TOURNAMENT 12.8.2009
Once again the brave Old Gits were undaunted by the grey drizzle that enveloped Bishop Sutton on Wednesday morning. New fewer than four rounds of high quality competitive tennis were played in the damp before the temptation of Pimms won the day. There were plenty of cunning drop shots, lots of spin, some superb smashes, even the odd ace and enough action to work up good appetites. No red cards or cautions had to be issued and everyone behaved honourably.
Sally and Clive Wright ably took over new roles as catering manager and bar assistant, and Lynne Browning organized an amazing spread of pudds.
After lunch the semi-finals were played in warm sunshine with a rather somnolent crowd, however they did rouse themselves enough for a few Mexican waves (does this mean swine flu will follow?). The exciting final was fought out between Debbie Jones, Barbara Mabbutt, Max Childs and Colin Timson. Colin and Debbie won the day.
Lynne and Mike Browning’s daughter Juliet, and grandson Bruno presented the prizes.
£108.25 was raised to contribute to the New Clubhouse fund. Well done everyone and thanks for your help.
