About us
We are a large (700 members) but friendly lawn tennis club based at Bishop Sutton,
ten miles south of Bristol. Members come from all around the Chew Valley area.
Our registered charity number is 1097418.
Our club is located on the eastern side of Bishop Sutton, next to the A368,
where we have five courts, and 2 mini tennis courts. map
Bishop Sutton, the only sizeable club in the area, has been pro-active in spearheading the promotion and development of tennis in the Chew Valley. The club has embraced the development strategies of both Avon County LTA and BANES and is working with them to encourage the growth of tennis in the local schools. The club is unlike almost every other tennis club in Avon in that it fulfils two roles. Besides being a normal club for serious tennis players it also has an important role to play in the community as a village amenity, where people can come and enjoy themselves with their friends and families.
The
rural location of the club, with a widespread catchment area, largely from dormitory
villages, influences the unusual court usage. Much of the weekend is given over
to juniors, for group and individual coaching, junior club and matches, with
comparatively light usage by senior members. During the school holidays many
families make use of the courts
